On July 4th, the "2026 International Symposium on Tao Yuanming," hosted by the School of Humanities at our SHNU and co-organized by the Shanghai Classical Literature Association, was inaugurated at SHNU. Professor Lin Zaiyong, SHNU Party Committee Secretary and President of the Shanghai Poetry Association, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a welcome speech. He noted that scholars from various countries are exploring the transmission, reception, and influence of Tao Yuanming's poetry and prose in East Asia and beyond, ranging from domestic to foreign literary traditions. Professor Gong Bin, Honorary President of the Chinese Tao Yuanming Research Association and a professor at East China Normal University, stated that studying Tao Yuanming is not merely about admiring his poetry, but also about honoring and learning from his love for freedom and nature. Professor Chen Yinchu, President of the Shanghai Ancient Literature Association and a professor from Fudan University, as well as Professor Wu Fusheng, a Distinguished Professor from the University of Utah in the United States and a visiting professor from Sichuan University, shared their erspectives. 延伸阅读
The opening ceremony featured two sessions with nine expert presentations. On the afternoon of the July 4thand the morning of the July 5th, the conference continued with three thematic breakout sessions and two keynote addresses. Among the breakout sessions, activities included an academic symposium commemorating Mr. Ge Gongbin's 80thbirthday, a new book launch for the history of Tao Yuanming's reception, and an advance announcement for the new book Biography of Dao'an.
